Amazon India Helped 2.5 Firms in MSME Sector Go Digital

The e-commerce giant, Amazon India said that it has digitised 2.5 Million micro, small and medium enterprises in the country. The company had last year announced that it will invest $1 Billion to digitally enable 10 Million firms belonging to the MSME sector by 2025. The ongoing pandemic has also pushed several businesses to shift online, as per report, the number of sellers venturing online have increased by 50 per cent since the coronavirus outbreak and the subsequent lockdown.

Not only the MSMEs, the e-commerce platform is increasingly hosting several local shops. Amazon India has a ‘Local Shop Programme’ through which the company aims to brings neighbourhood kirana stores on it’s online marketplace. The programme is said to have gone up around 10 times in the past six months to exceed more than 50,000 offline sellers.

The Indian local and regional language option available on Amazon India’s website has also helped in the increase of sellers to enter the online marketplace. Around one third of the sellers have signed up in local languages mostly Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Marathi, said Amazon India’s Global Senior Vice President and Country Head Amit Agarwal. India Inc’s Revenue Expected to Grow at 15-17% in Fourth Quarter of FY21: Report

The corporate revenues in India are likely to grow by 15 per cent to 17 per cent year-on-year in the forth quarter of financial year 2021, as per a report by Crisil. It further adds that the revenues are expected to rise to Rs 6.9 Lakh Crore by the said duration. This comes after eight quarters of either decline or single digit growth in the sector. According to the report,  construction-linked sectors such as steel and cement are estimated to have seen revenue rise 45-50 per cent and 17- 18 per cent on-year, respectively, buoyed by higher realisations and volumes. The revenue estimates are based on an analysis of 300 companies, that totals to around 55-66 per cent of the market capitalisation financial services and oil companies of the National Stock Exchange.  “The robust revenue growth rides on a low base of the corresponding year-ago quarter, besides higher government capital expenditure, and higher realisations amid a commodity upcycle, among others,” said Crisil Research Director Hetal Gandhi. 3 Top Investment Schemes in India to put your money at!

“Revenue for players in sectors such as airline services is estimated to drop 30 per cent on-year amid social distancing and cut in discretionary expenses, especially travel budgets,” he added.  “Similarly, revenue for players in media and entertainment is also expected to drop 10 per cent on-year due to lower advertisement spends and subscriptions. That said, a lower share of such sectors in the top 300 sectoral mix has muted the impact,” said  Gandhi.

According to the report by Crisil, that owing to the second wave of coronavirus pandemic, various states are likely to mount partial lockdown, keeping demand recovery uncertain in the near term. Stand-Up India Scheme: Banks Sanctions Rs 25,586 Cr to 1.14 Lakh Stand-Up India Accounts To Promote Entrepreneurship Amongst Women, SC & ST Category

With an aim to promote entrepreneurship among women, the government announced that banks have sanctioned Rs 25,586 crore to about 1,14,322 beneficiaries under the Stand Up India Scheme in the last five years. There is a large group of potential entrepreneurs particularly women and Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) who want to set up an enterprise of their own, which allows them to grow and thrive. Such entrepreneurs are spread across country and are bubbling with ideas on what they can do for themselves and their families.

Aspiring SC, ST, and women entrepreneurs are energetic and enthusiastic but may face challenges in converting their dream to reality. Recognizing these challenges, the Stand up India Scheme was launched on April 5, 2016. The scheme aims to promote entrepreneurship at grassroot level focusing on economic empowerment and job creation. This scheme has been extended up to the year 2025.

The objective of Stand-Up India is to promote entrepreneurship amongst women, Scheduled Castes (SC) & Scheduled Tribes (ST) categories, to help them in starting a greenfield enterprise in trading, manufacturing and services sector, by both ready and trainee borrowers.

About Stand Up India Scheme:

  1. Under the scheme, bank loans between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 1 crore are provided to at least one Scheduled Caste/ Scheduled Tribe borrower and at least one woman borrower per bank branch of Scheduled Commercial Banks.
  2. Started in April 5, 2016, the scheme has benefited 93,094 women entrepreneurs with outstanding loan of Rs 21,200 crore as of March 23.
  3. This scheme, which has been extended up to 2025, covers SC/ST and/or women entrepreneurs, above 18 years of age.
  4. In case of non-individual enterprises, 51 percent of the shareholding and controlling stake should be held by either SC/ST and/or Women Entrepreneur and borrowers should not be in default to any bank/financial institution.
