Startup Hub in Odisha to Be Set Up by March 2021, Aims to Create Employment Opportunities for Youth in State

Bhubaneswar, November 16: With an aim to give a major fillip to startups in Odisha, the Naveen Patnaik government in the state has decided to set up a startup hub. The hub, comprising of common facilities and will be set up by March 2021 and aims to create employment opportunities for youth in the state.

An official aware of the development said that the government has also given its in-principle approval to provide financial assistance to five startups and four incubators. “With the completion of the new startup hub by March 2021, it would be a centre of excellence with co-working space, laboratory and common services under one roof,” the official said.

According to reports, the decision for setting up the hub was taken at a State Startup Council Meeting chaired by Chief Secretary AK Tripathy in Odisha on November 13. During the meeting, the state government gave its in- principle approval for providing financial assistance of around Rs 2.88 crore to five startups and four incubators, the official added. Tripathy also directed officials to make a third-party assessment on the outcomes of the financial assistance to these units.

In Odisha, the number of startup ventures have gone up to 774, which created 6,000 employment opportunities. Moreover, a financial assistance of over Rs 15 crore has been provided to 196 startups and incubators, he added. The chief secretary also asked them to strengthen the startup eco-system in Odisha through a strategic partnership and policy intervention. “The council recognised the first startup in June 2017. The number has increased to 774, including 250 women-led units, by November 2020,” the official said.

According to a report by IANS, Humsafar plans project support from scratch to complete fruition to new start-ups of doorstep diesel delivery. The plan includes setting up a company, fabricating bowsers, (oil dispensing vehicles) and setting up a tech platform for delivery of diesel at doorsteps in various parts of the country.

Sanya Goel, Co-Founder and Director, Humsafar was quoted in the report saying that Humsafar also helps start-ups market the service in the industry by partnering with other dealers and acquiring new customers.The opportunity the Doorstep Diesel industry provides is enormous, offering safe and legal alternatives to fuel procurement.

About Humsafar App:

  1. In less than four months, the Humsafar app, ‘Fuel Humsafar’, has crossed over 10,000 downloads on Google Play Store and has processed 20,000 transactions.
  2. The app has been customised to help clients and vendors manage their orders, drivers, tracking of the bowser, checking fuel capacity, stock management, advanced MIS.
  3. The report informs that Humsafar also offers a dedicated app, just for the Drivers, which allows them to track the user’s location, check orders, review order history, and manage stock, which in turn allows the vendor to view the driver’s performance and delivery status from time-to-time.
  4. Humsafar is currently servicing 24 states across India. The startup has also roped in 50 plus retail partners across 24 states.
  5. Humsafar is also looking to raise its first external investment and plans to launch B2C ordering by the end of 2020.

The mobile bowsers, popularly known as dispensing vehicles, are expected to supplement petrol pumps, changing the landscape of fuel procurement. Goel added saying that it’s great to see that most of their applications have been from the younger generation which speaks volumes of the entrepreneurial spirt among the youth.

The gross revenues of the startup stood at Rs 22 million in the year 2019-20, and by the end of 2021, Humsafar plans on targeting diesel delivery of 500 million litres. This will translate into a revenue of Rs 100 million.

Repos Energy, a Ratan Tata-Backed Energy Distribution Company in Pune, Registers Over 150 Fuel Startups in Less Than a Month

In a major milestone and a step towards Atmanirbhar Bharat, Repos Energy, a Pune-based energy distribution company, has registered over 150 fuel startups in less than a month. Reports inform that these startups would carry on door-to-door delivery of diesel through mobile petrol pumps. Repos Energy startup, which was founded in 2017, is based out of Pune in Maharashtra. It has been funded by Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, Ratan Tata. At present, the firm operates in over 150 cities of India. The firm said that as per industry experts, this move is expected to garner around Rs 9,000 crore of investment.

According to a report by IANS, Repos Energy will call them ‘fuel startups’ and will provide them with the entire support system. Repos will provide these new startups with end-to-end solutions for buying the mobile petrol pumps along with sharing the know-how. Some of the fuel startups that have registered with Repos include- Easy Diesel from Pune, Nuvera Energy from Mumbai, Auro Fuels from Bengaluru, AMA Fuels from Kolkata, Echological Fuels from Guwahati, Future Fuel Services from Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh.

Talking about the growth of the firm, co-founders Chetan Walunj and Aditi Bhosale Walunj, empowering startups through the dynamic model of doorstep diesel delivery through mobile petrol pumps will change the game of fuel distribution in India. “With the goal to reboot the economy and making India Atmanirbhar, Repos Energy has been working extensively to create a startup ecosystem of its own in the energy sector,” a company statement said.

“These fuel startups will be registered with us and featured on our app. We will also provide them with the necessary infrastructure. This will include a back-end team to build their entire brand identity. We will make sure that they become successful startups,” Chetan Walunj said. Meanwhile, Aditi Bhosale Walunj said, “We have built an entire ecosystem of fuel distribution that consists of IoT and AI-driven Repos Mobile Petrol Pumps (RMPP). These RMPPs are being designed at our IoT facility in Chakan, Pune, and comply with PESO norms.”
